Project 9 – Bioprospecting of Drugs and Molecular Targets in Neuroinflammation and Cancer

Objectives

  • Develop human resources through sandwich doctoral programs, including cotutelle arrangements, for students enrolled in the Network’s Graduate Programs;

  • Establish new international collaborations through activities such as technical visits abroad and visits by international partners to the Graduate Programs in Pharmacology (UFC and UFPI), Translational Medicine (UFC), and Pharmaceutical Sciences (UFJF);

  • Publish scientific articles resulting from international partnerships that have already been established or are being developed under this proposal;

  • Participate in international scientific events to present results obtained through international partnerships that have already been established or are being developed under this proposal;

  • Promote scientific outreach through lectures, courses, extension activities, and/or courses taught by international partners whose collaborations have already been established or are being developed under this proposal;

  • Facilitate the offering of courses with the participation of international collaborators as a means of encouraging the use of English or Spanish in scientific communication.

Research Focus:

UFC’s Graduate Program in Pharmacology, the lead proposing Graduate Program, has an established track record in the investigation of natural products with biological activity. The research team brings together recognized national research groups, including PPGMT-UFC, PPGFARM-UFPI, and PPGCF-UFJF, listed below, which are also engaged in translational research ranging from the discovery of bioactive compounds to the elucidation of mechanisms of action and clinical applications. The selection of neuroinflammation and cancer as research focuses reflects not only their importance as critical public health areas but also the fact that the participating Graduate Programs have already developed substantial research capacity, international engagement, and strong potential for innovation in these fields.
