Project 12 – Chronic, Infectious, and Inflammatory Diseases (Communicable and Noncommunicable): innovative strategies for sustainable diagnosis, prevention, and treatment

Objectives

This proposal falls within the field of health, with a focus on the intersection of medical sciences, surgical sciences, physical therapy, biotechnology, and translational innovation. The project seeks to address a growing public health challenge: the increasing prevalence of chronic, infectious, and inflammatory diseases and their direct impact on quality of life and the burden placed on health care systems. To this end, we propose to develop innovative and sustainable solutions, ranging from the development of rapid, low-cost diagnostic methods to new preventive and therapeutic strategies based on Brazilian biodiversity. The initiative builds on the effective academic exchange already established among Graduate Programs at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) and the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), institutions of excellence, with a focus on highly qualified human resource development, institutional internationalization, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge to society. The innovative nature of the proposal lies in its integration of science, sustainability, and social impact, in alignment with the strategic needs of Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS) and the strengthening of Brazilian science on the global stage.
