UFC Hosts Launch of Converge, a New International Cooperation Network
Last Thursday (3), the Converge Network for international cooperation was launched at the Main Auditorium of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). The network brings together six federal universities and is coordinated by UFC. It is part of Global.edu, a new internationalization program launched by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (Capes) to foster cooperation networks among higher education institutions.
In addition to UFC, the network includes the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), the University for International Integration of the Afro-Brazilian Lusophone Community (Unilab), the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR), and the Federal University of Pampa (Unipampa).

The network has an estimated budget of BRL 87 million to fund research scholarships, joint missions with international research institutions, and project development between 2026 and 2030 (Photo: Ribamar Neto/UFC).
The launch ceremony brought together representatives from all partner institutions, as well as representatives of the Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development Support In∴ Ceará (Funcap).
THE NETWORK – The Converge Network brings together 87 graduate programs. It has an estimated budget of BRL 87 million, which will be used to fund research scholarships, joint missions with international research institutions, and project development between 2026 and 2030. Planned initiatives include academic mobility, the recruitment of foreign researchers, scientific cooperation, curricular internationalization projects, and training activities.
Unlike its predecessor, Capes Print, Global.edu is designed to promote internationalization among graduate programs at different stages of development. One of the goals of the Converge Network is to help reduce disparities in the internationalization of Brazilian graduate education.
The initiatives developed by the Converge Network are aligned with 15 of the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They are also connected to 43 national priority areas.
